Listen to this article

On Monday, the U.S President Donald Trump said that he needs democracy in Venezuela to be restored as soon as possible. He also warned that the United States will take additional steps to impose pressure on the oil-producing countries. Trump delivered his words at a dinner with Latin American leaders on the fringes of the UN General Assembly. He also said that people of Venezuela and their country were going hungry after collapsing one of the wealthiest states. The President of Brazil Michel Temer informed reporters that all present at the dinner agreed on the need to ramp up international pressure on the Socialist government of President Nicolás Maduro, but without directly intervening in Venezuela. The United States has imposed financial sanctions against Venezuela, as it is the supplier of 10% of the oil it consumes. Trump also said that U.S government is ready to take additional steps if Maduro continues on a path to authoritarian rule.

Trump also said that the situation in Venezuela was entirely unacceptable; he called for a full restoration of democracy and political freedoms due to Washington want it to happen very soon. Besides Temer, Trump invited presidents Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia, Juan Carlos Varela of Panama and Argentine Vice President Gabriela Michetti to the dinner with their foreign ministers. Point to be noted that more than 125 people have been killed in just 4 months of demonstrations against the Maduro government.  Trump said at the dinner that Maduro has defied his own people stealing power from their elected representatives to preserve his disastrous rule. Maduro has blamed his domestic opponents and the United States for creating financial troubles in Venezuela and declared it an alleged economic war.
