Obama Administration was Begging for a Meeting with Kim Jong-Un: Trump
Listen to this articleThe U.S President formerly claimed the Obama administration requested to meet with the North Korean leader, but he refused to meet them. On Sunday morning, the former director of national intelligence in the Obama administration, James Clapper spoke in State of the Union program of CNN. He laughed after he was shown a clip of Trump informing reporters that Obama’s requests to meet the North Korean leader were rejected. Trump claimed that the Obama administration was begging to meet Kim Jong-un. Clapper said, “I don’t know where he’s getting that. In all the deliberations that I participated in on North Korea during the Obama administration, I can recall no instance whatever where president Obama ever indicated any interest whatsoever in meeting with Chairman Kim. That’s news to me”.
Clapper acknowledged later in the interview that Trump’s visit to North Korea was a great historic moment due to he has become the first U.S President to enter North Korea. The former intelligence chief, James Clapper also served under the former U.S President George W Bush. He said he didn’t think the visit of U.S president was a breakthrough moment in nuclear talks between both countries. He said, “I personally don’t believe the North Koreans have long term any intent to denuclearize. Why should they? It’s their ticket to survival and they’re just not going to do that”.
On Sunday, Trump informed reporters after a one-hour meeting with Kim, he said, “President Obama wanted to meet and Chairman Kim would not meet him. The Obama administration was begging for a meeting, they were begging for meetings, constantly and Chairman Kim would not meet with him, and for some reason, we have certain chemistry or whatever”. New claim of Trump was also disputed by Obama’s deputy national security adviser, Ben Rhodes. He tweeted, “Trump is lying. I was there for all 8 years. Obama never sought a meeting with Kim Jong-Un. Foreign policy isn’t reality television it’s a reality”.
