Pelosi says Trump is digging his own grave

The U.S House speaker Nancy Pelosi said the U.S President Donald Trump is digging his own grave, even if she and her fellow Democrats in the House are resisting impeaching the president. Washington is still dizzy following the release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report and attorney general William Barr’s decision to insult the House Judiciary Committee leading to contempt votes. Pelosi said that she is waiting for congressional investigations to expose all the evidence. She believes Trump is doing himself no favors by resisting those investigative efforts in the meantime, including recent subpoenas for his adult son, Donald Trump Jr., to testify regarding his contacts with Russians.

On Thursday, Pelosi said during her weekly press briefing, “The president is almost self-impeaching because he is every day demonstrating more obstruction and disrespect for Congress’s legitimate role to subpoena”. Pelosi has repeatedly insisted that Democrats aren’t moving forward on impeachment proceedings against the U.S President and have instead decided to wait for House committees to continue with their investigations.

The U.S Justice Department and White House have resisted those investigations. Moreover, a top official wrote a letter to the House Judiciary Committee pointing them the West Wing was asserting executive privilege over the entire Mueller report and underlying evidence. The decision came as a deadline to comply with a subpoena for those materials approached and the insult led the committee to vote to hold Barr in contempt. It would likely be a largely symbolic act if the House ultimately approves of the holding Barr in contempt.
