The U.S President will attend the funeral of former U.S President George H.W. Bush. He was at the age of 94 and passed away on Friday. The press secretary of White House, Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that the President will designate Wednesday, December 5th as a National Day of Mourning. He and the First Lady will attend the funeral at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. The presence of Trump at the upcoming funeral services was questioned after the president didn’t attend the funeral of former First Lady Barbara Bush in the month of April. Trump had cited that he didn’t need to cause any disruptions with the extra security that would be needed from his presence. Instead, First Lady Melania Trump went to the service.
Trump also had a rocky relationship with Bush, the 41st president of the U.S., and his son George W. Bush, the 43rd president of the U.S. The Bush family didn’t shy away from expressing concern when Trump was elected as the U.S President in 2016. George H.W. Bush called Trump a “blowhard” and reports suggested he had voted for Hillary Clinton. But shortly after the announcement of George H.W. Bush’s death, Trump released a statement complimenting the former president for his lifetime of public service, his leadership through the end of the Cold War and his “devotion to family”. Trump also tweeted to pay a personal tribute to Bush. He wrote, “President George H.W. Bush led a long, successful and beautiful life. Whenever I was with him I saw his absolute joy for life and true pride in his family. His accomplishments were great from beginning to end. He was a truly wonderful man and will be missed by all”!
